Recognizing the need to bring pharmaceutical companies and physicians together to advance clinical research and meet the future needs of patients, Advanced Clinical Concepts, Inc . was incorporated in February 2001. In May of 2005, Women's Clinic, Ltd. acquired ACC to expand the research capabilities of their large OB/GYN practice. This acquisition enabled the practice to offer patients the opportunity to participate in clinical studies. Examples of studies currently or previously conducted are Overactive Bladder, Nocturia, Stress Urinary Incontinence, Osteoporosis, Female Sexual Dysfunction, Endometriosis, Anemia, Amenorrhea, Hot Flashes, IBS, Abnormal Pap and Abnormal Mammogram.

The two Certified Clinical Research Coordinators of the company bring together their combined experience of over 40 years managing and coordinating trials for physicians and pharmaceutical companies. Stephen H. Fehnel, M.D. serves as the medical director for Advanced Clinical Concepts. Dr. Fehnel has been actively involved in clinical research for many years before acquiring ACC and he continues to encourage this specialty at Women's Clinic, Ltd.

The goal of Advanced Clinical Concepts is to conduct clinical trials in order to bring new drugs to market that will enable people to live longer, healthier, and more active lives. By participating in clinical research, we can all play a significant role in the growth and development of medicine in our area. Advanced Clinical Concepts brings pharmaceutical companies and patients together with the common goal of bringing treatment options to patients that are not yet available to the medical community.

Advanced Clinical Concepts is staffed by two ACRP Certified Clinical Research Coordinators who are responsible for the management and coordination of the research studies.

Pam Schearer, CCRC has worked in the medical field for 23 years and in the field of clinical research for 21 years. Pam has conducted studies for Merck & Co. Inc., Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Hoescht Maron and Roussel, Roche, GSK, Elan, Aventis Sanofi Winthrop, Novo Nordisk, Endo, Exact Sciences, Pharmacia, Atrix, Ethicon and Proctor & Gamble, Luitpold, Neurocrine, Indevus, Gennetech, Astellas and Ferring.

Jan Petrie, CCRC has 32 years experience in the medical field and 14 years in clinical research. Jan is an ASCP registered laboratory technician and is an experienced phlebotomist. Jan coordinated research trials for Pfizer, Parke-Davis, Novo Nordisk, Endo, GSK, Exact Sciences, Pharmacia, Atrix, Sepracor, Elan, Aventis, AstraZeneca, Ethicon, Roche, Luitpold, Neurocrine and Indevus, Astellas and Ferring.

Jan previously worked as Site Director for the largest SMO in the U.S. managing a clinical site and working with numerous pharmaceutical companies and CROs.

Dr. Stephen H. Fehnel, Medical Director graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1973 and Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1977. He finished his OB/GYN residency in 1981 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Fehnel then joined Women's Clinic, Ltd. in Reading in 1981. He is now the Treasurer of the Corporation and Medical Director of Advanced Clinical Concepts, which is a research subsidiary of Women's Clinic, Ltd. dedicated to advancing clinical research.

Dr. Fehnel remains an active member of the Section of Gynecology at the Reading Hospital. He practiced obstetrics until 2001.

Dr. Fehnel is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Fehnel is certified by the American College of Radiologists to interpret gynecologic and obstetrical ultrasounds. He is also certified by the American Society of Clinical Densitometrists to interpret bone densitometry studies for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. Dr. Fehnel has advanced training in pelvic surgery for the treatment of urinary bladder incontinence and pelvic floor and rectal dysfunction due to pelvic floor prolapse.

In addition, Dr. Fehnel has brought to Women's Clinic, Ltd. the skills of in-office laser treatment for removal of unsightly hair and leg veins. Dr. Fehnel has been working with Dr. Pellegrini in the Fertility Division at Women's Clinic, Ltd. for many years.
